Insulation works like a protective barrier, helping your boiler run more efficiently and cutting energy costs while enhancing

The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is available to homeowners, landlords, and private tenants across the UK. To qualify, your home must typically have an EPC rating of D or lower, and meet one of the following criteria:

You can check your EPC rating for free on the official GOV.UK EPC Register.
No — you don’t need to be an E.ON Next customer to benefit from the Great British Insulation Scheme. The initiative is government-backed and available to all eligible households in the UK, regardless of energy supplier.
The GBIS covers a range of insulation measures designed to reduce heat loss and improve home comfort. Depending on your property, you could qualify for one or more of the following:
Cavity Wall Insulation
Loft Insulation
Room in Roof Insulation
Solid Wall Insulation (Internal or External)
Underfloor Insulation
These upgrades can help reduce energy waste, lower heating bills, and improve your home’s EPC rating.
Your insulation type will depend on your property’s construction, location, and existing insulation levels. A qualified energy assessor will carry out a home survey to determine the most suitable insulation measure.
While you can express a preference, the final recommendation will be based on GBIS criteria to maximise your home’s energy efficiency and savings.
Both ECO4 and GBIS are UK Government energy efficiency schemes, but they serve different purposes:
ECO4 Scheme – Focuses on whole-home energy efficiency upgrades for low-income and vulnerable households, covering heating systems, insulation, and renewable technologies.
GBIS Scheme – Aims to provide single insulation measures, such as loft or wall insulation, to a broader range of households, including middle-income families.
In simple terms, ECO4 targets deep retrofits, while GBIS offers affordable insulation improvements to help more homes reduce energy bills.
Under the GBIS Child Benefit eligibility criteria, your income must fall below a certain threshold depending on your household size:
| Number of Children | Single Adult | Couple |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | £19,900 | £27,500 |
| 2 | £24,800 | £32,300 |
| 3 | £29,600 | £37,200 |
| 4+ | £34,500 | £42,000 |
If your income is within these limits, you could qualify for free or discounted insulation through the Great British Insulation Scheme.
